The Elevator to Success is Broken

Hey guys!

I hope you all are having an amazing week!

No matter what industry you work in, we all can relate to the fact that the elevator to success is always broken. It's usually those who rode it to the top in the first place, who purposely break it to force others to walk up the stairs. As you walk up the stairs you work hard, be nice, play the politics in hopes of finally reaching the top. As you climb flight by flight, all it takes is one false move or one bad day from someone at the very top to send boulders, marbles, and many other obstacles in your way to knock you down or force you to walk down the stairs instead of up.

I started climbing those stairs 3 years ago when I moved to NY and as soon as I got high enough, I always got knocked down by some obstacle by someone from up top. They wanted me to get high (to make them look good), but not too high that I could go off on my own and start being successful for me. When they thought I got too high, they would pull every trick in the book and throw every obstacle they could to make sure I either turned around or fell. Each time I fell or turned around I would be the bigger person, smile, dust myself off and start climbing again (although sometimes I would vent!). Despite that I always chose to highlight my small successes, opportunities, press, and other little achievements and not my struggles, so that everyone would think that I was doing really well when in fact behind the scenes I continually kept climbing and struggling.

That's cute and fun when you are in your 20's, but when you reach your 30's you grow up and realize that there are other ways to success other than the stairs where people are throwing obstacles and the forever broken elevator. I've finally decided to get OFF the stairs and create an escalator to success. What Death Did To Me

Why does it take something tragic like death or disaster to bring out the best in people? Why does death bring people together? For most people death is something that invokes fear, sadness, and the idea that life is over and they will never be the same. The idea of a loved one passing away is such a devastating idea that many people don't talk about it or talk about it in hushed tones as to not bring it on their family or loved ones.

What many people don't know is that I come from a lot of death. Right now at age 31, I'm the oldest and only living member of my entire family and ironically also the heir of my family name. The two most devastating and unexpected deaths were losing my mother on 1/12/99 after she had 3 seizures and driving to Memphis for Thanksgiving 2003, to visit my grandmother and receiving a call that she had passed away in a fire when I was only 4 hours away. I had younger sisters to take care of so at first I never let anyone know that I was grieving. I would smile, laugh, be fun and crazy motivational Mario always being "on" in front of people and then go home and cry myself hysterically to sleep every night. I've been at the lowest point of my life several times. What kept me from doing the ultimate selfish thing was the mere thought of everyone that would be at my funeral if I did. I essentially had to pick my own self up off the ground several times throughout the rest of my life and strive to keep living with the occasional breakdown.

Death did a lot to me. It's the reason I entered the fitness industry. After the first death of my mother I exercised and lifted weights to deal with the grief and pain. Although it made me stronger, resilient, compassionate, empathetic, and present, it also made me lonely, sad, and left a huge void inside of me. The loss of a loved one is heart shattering. Once your heart is shattered, it doesn't matter how many times or ways you try and put the pieces back together, your heart will never ever be the same again. Death is never easy to accept and whether it’s sudden, shocking, slow, or painful, there is something valuable that is always learned from death. Because of death, we hear from people that may have had a silent presence before. We suddenly come together to appreciate an amazing and dearly missed person; their remarkable qualities, their contributions, and their passions. What puzzles me is why people save their love up until death or disaster happens? Why not always tell people how much you care about them? I really do wish happiness brought us all together more.

We as a society take so many things for granted on a daily basis. We never know when our time will come. It could be driving down the street and having an accident, a sudden illness that was not expected, or it could be anything…but when it happens, it's final. Tell those you love that you care about them everyday. Watch your words so you do not have to live with the fact that you were never able to say you were sorry. Tomorrow is not a guarantee for any of us. Live your life every day presently and to the fullest and in death you will leave a legacy of peace with your loved ones – something they can hold on too and smile. While death and the loss of a loved one is sad, remembering them in life is a comfort. 

My mother's birthday is October 18th and it's always a very difficult time around her birth and death days. My project, my drive, my passion, my motivation, my inspiration, and my emotion is all for my mother. Rest in peace Monica Denise Green. I will forever and always love you mommy.

 
I really hope this enables you to understand my daily personal and emotional struggle. Despite this I continually make the choice to be positive and keep a bright outlook on life. Everyone has their own personal struggle behind their smiles and upbeat faces. Always be kind to all, you never know what someone is going through.

TWITCH MUSCLE FIBERS
We have two types of muscle fibers: slow-twitch (type I) and fast-twitch (type II). Slow-twitch muscles help enable lower intensity, higher endurance movements such as distance running, while fast-twitch muscles fatigue faster, but are used in more powerful movements such as sprinting. During aerobic exercises such as running or swimming, slow-twitch fibers are the first to contract and when the slow-twitch fibers become tired, fast-twitch varieties begin to take over. During high-intensity exercises that require quick, powerful movements (like jumping or sprinting), fast-twitch muscles contract first.

There are many benefits to mixing high- and low-intensity workouts (and in the process working fast and slow twitch muscle fibers!). Aerobic slow-twitch exercises increase stamina and oxygen supply, allowing the body to burn energy— i.e. calories— for longer periods of time. VARIED EXERCISES/FATIGUE FOCUS™

How Negative Energy Affects Your Life and How To Get Rid Of It

What is negative energy? Negative energy is negative chi, negative aura, or otherwise detrimental energy that a person gives off. When we think about negative energy, we tend to perceive that as something that mostly other people have. Sure, we all sometimes feel negative as in the "go away, don't talk to me, and leave me alone" context, but what a lot of people don't realize is that negativity can be so ingrained in you that it goes unnoticed.
That's because negativity can be disguised as "reality". It's so easy to rationalize that you are "just being realistic" in not acting on a dream or doing something that you really want to do and believe it! When people are being "realistic", why do they tend to always see the negative side of things and why does this always seem to talk them out of doing certain things?


A lot of "realistic" people think that positive people are not being realistic, are naive, or in denial with a fake smile in the face of challenges. Are we really happy or is there something about our positivity? When does being realistic mean that things will go wrong and that you have to accept that as truth? I'm not saying that being realistic is automatically negative, but when your view of the world is from a "realistic" standpoint you can't help but be negative IF your version of reality is negative.



If your version of reality is negative, you are conditioned to believe that whatever can go wrong, will go wrong and whatever can go right, will more than likely go wrong too. Your own personal unconscious beliefs make you into a negative person without you even consciously being aware of it! So essentially even though you think you are being "realistic" you are actually unconsciously being negative and not even noticing it.


So if this negativity is so ingrained in you that you don't notice it, how do you figure out if you're stuck in a cloud of negative energy that is attracting the WRONG people, WRONG situations, and WRONG feelings? How can you be really sure that you aren't perpetuating that negativity?

To make it easy for you to really gauge the level of negative energy within you, here is a little quiz:

1. Do you criticize? All the time or just certain people?

2. Do you often discuss what’s wrong in the world more than what’s right? This includes the ‘terrible’ weather, ‘horrible’ traffic, ‘idiotic’ government, ‘lousy’ economy, ‘stupid’ in-laws, etc.

3. Are you attracted to drama and disaster (can you unglue yourself from the TV when there’s a news story of a disaster and can you avoid getting involved in the lives of dysfunctional celebrities?)

4. Do you blame? All the time or just certain situations?

5. Do you complain? All the time or just sometimes?

6. Are you grateful for what is or will you be grateful when things finally start going right for you?

7. Do you feel like things are happening to you? Or do you feel that they are happening through you?

8. Do you feel like a victim? Do you talk about people doing things to you?

9. Do you believe that you have no control over most of your results?

10. Are you "realistic" most of the time?

If you're not grateful except when things go right, you are negative. Gratitude is positive. If you are grateful for what is (including the unpleasant school of life lessons, then you can invite more and more positive energy into your life.

Believing that things happen to you puts you in the role of victim; then it’s easy to be negative because it’s convenient to give up that power. So consider this alternative: who or what is to blame when GOOD things happen to you? Do you acknowledge that you are responsible for the good things – as in, you worked hard, you earned it, etc… but blame external events or other people for your failures? So how come, when good things happen, they are a result of what you do, but when bad things happen, they are not your fault?

Nobody likes to hear this. It takes courage to accept that you create your own life experience! But we are all adults and need to take accountability for our actions and our life!
If you answered yes to any of the above questions, you are unfortunately holding on to negative energy to some degree. To clear your negative energy and raise your vibration, you need to retrain yourself to actively CHOOSE a positive attitude.


Here’s another interesting idea to consider: have you noticed that positive people seem to get what they want out of life, and even if things don’t go their way, they still enjoy their lives… while negative people whine, moan, and complain about their misfortunes and even the good things in their lives?

To clear negative energy, try this 3 -step process:
1. Take ownership:“When you think everything is someone else’s fault, you will suffer a lot. When you realize that everything springs only from yourself, you will learn both peace and joy.” – the Dalai Lama

2. Cancel negative thoughts and replace them with positive thoughts. This takes practice, dedication and making a decision to see the world through the eyes of “what can go right” instead of “what can go wrong.” You’ll have to catch yourself anytime you are acting out or speaking out your negativity, and immediately change your tune.

3. Visualize the positive instead of getting sucked into negativity; overcome past conditioning; think intuitively from the soul instead from ‘reality’; create a new, desired reality in your imagination and manifest it in the outer world. Nobody wants negative energy to permeate their lives, yet many of us allow it. But we allow it unconsciously, based on past conditioning that suggests an inevitable outcome to certain situations. When you overcome that conditioning and realize that the future is NOT cast in stone but that you have more control over your circumstances than you believe – then you can begin to consciously design your life.

What’s going to happen then? Your positive energy will magnetically attract what you consider to be good and right for you: people, situations, things… and you’ll notice a huge, huge increase in your happiness and inner peace.

Why not CHOOSE positive energy? Your life is a product of YOUR choices. Make some changes within, and you’ll quickly see positive changes in your life. Enjoy the good feelings and abundance! Take one and pass it on!

Plyo Dance™/Kangoo Classes No Longer at New York Health and Racquet Clubs

It's with great regret that after 4 years I announce that Plyo Dance™/Kangoo classes in addition to myself, are no longer with New York Health and Racquet Clubs. It's been a wonderful partnership and run, but New York Health and Racquet has chosen to go completely in the direction of old school hi/lo step aerobics with their rebound shoe programming that I personally launched at their locations and in the US. This is not even remotely close to my vision of moving forward and not backward for my very unique programming.

While their decision is extremely disappointing, this also reaffirms my commitment to only working with innovative, cutting edge, and contemporary health club chains and boutique studios who are capable of evolving.

As we finalize manufacturing for Air Glide Mario™, it's important to note that we will be the first and only rebound shoe with physical safety features on it that allow users to stop, stabilize, and feel comfortable and safe. With the launch of our product ALL OTHER similar products will be inferior and publicly deemed UNSAFE. 

We want to thank any and everyone that has been a part of and so supportive of our run at New York Health and Racquet clubs. This one chapter may be closing but we have many more bigger and better chapters ahead! :-)

SKIP the Resolutions and create SMART GOALS NOW!

People tend to self-sabotage themselves by making New Year’s resolutions general, vague, and not really attainable due to an unrealistic time frame. This is why so many people start really strong and motivated and then give up because the realization of how hard it is, coupled with the frustration of not getting instant gratification via immediate results sets in. Getting and staying fit is not a “one and done” process and improving your mind and body is a never ending journey. 

I tell clients to create 30, 60, or 90 day goals instead of stereotypical "New Year’s Resolutions." I ask them to think about what their top three fitness goals are, and then write a specific list in first person and under each goal I have them write exactly how and what they are going to do to reach that goal. Every 30, 60, or 90 days they check in with themselves and me and we create another 30, 60, or 90 day plan of attack based on what happened the past 30, 60, or 90 days. It keeps them consistent, accountable, and motivated because 30, 60, or 90 days is enough time to notice the “little wins” like more energy, fitting in jeans or a shirt better, or seeing your excess fat get smaller.

Another important thing I tell my clients is know your "Why". The more emotionally connected to WHY you want to accomplish your goal, the faster you'll get there and the longer it will last. Don't be scared to DIG a little deeper than just "lose weight", "smaller waist", or "fit in skinny jeans" and things can change PERMANENTLY.

Create S.M.A.R.T. Goals:

- Specific: Be specific with your goal e.g., instead of saying you want to "lose weight", be specific, like "I want to lose 4 pounds"

- Measurable: The goal needs to be measurable e.g., if you want to get in "better shape", make sure you can measure it like "drop a dress size" or "run a 5k in less time"

- Attainable: Don't do lofty goals that are not attainable, you will only set yourself up for failure e.g., instead of saying "I'm going to quit smoking, go on a diet and hit the gym 5x week", start with one thing you can attain, in smaller steps that can lead to a big result.

- Realistic: Set goals that are realistic in where are you are starting from e.g., if you are just getting off the couch to workout from being sedentary, jumping into an extreme form of training, would not be wise...you run the risk of injury and quitting b/c it will be too painful. Maybe walking or a new class with other people at your fitness level would be more realistic.

- Timebound: Having a "deadline" on your goal is very important, it creates incentive and boundaries to work from. Rather than say "I'm going to get fit in the New Year", you could rephrase that as "I'm going to make it to the gym 3x week for January". A month is good amount of time for people to focus on...not too short and not too long.

I hope these very simple goal writing guidelines assist you in creating meaningful, attainable, and realistic goals!
